For the first episode, Juan sits down with Max Hodak, founder and CEO of Science Corp (opens new window), a PLC Neurotech portfolio company, which is building PRIMA, a retinal prosthetic that’s restoring meaningful vision for patients with blindness caused by age-related macular degeneration.

Science is also developing a biohybrid brain implant that grows living neurons directly onto a silicon chip, then interfaces that system with the cortex. Instead of forcing electronics into the brain, this method leverages biology to create higher-bandwidth, potentially more stable connections. In this episode, Juan and Max discuss the vast possibility space these innovations open up: literally growing new functional areas of the brain and integrating them with existing neural circuits.
