We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the Juan Benet Podcast (opens new window), a platform dedicated to conversations on the future of neurotech, computing, intelligence, and more.
Today, neurotech stands to restore not only vision, but also hearing, speech, and mobility for millions of people. Beyond restoration, as we better understand the brain and nervous system, we gain the ability to deliberately enhance human experience, controlling neurobiological processes, interconnecting seamlessly with computers and AI, and unlocking entirely new dimensions of cognition and capability.
For the first episode, Juan sits down with Max Hodak, founder and CEO of Science Corp (opens new window), a PLC Neurotech portfolio company, which is building PRIMA, a retinal prosthetic that’s restoring meaningful vision for patients with blindness caused by age-related macular degeneration.
Science is also developing a biohybrid brain implant that grows living neurons directly onto a silicon chip, then interfaces that system with the cortex. Instead of forcing electronics into the brain, this method leverages biology to create higher-bandwidth, potentially more stable connections. In this episode, Juan and Max discuss the vast possibility space these innovations open up: literally growing new functional areas of the brain and integrating them with existing neural circuits.
